RomeFlex solution and Engineering's platform

We enable a comprehensive, evolved and inclusive local Flexibility Marketplace for prosumers, serving all utilities in the area.

Challenge
Increasing energy consumption, in parallel with distributed energy generated by small producers through renewable sources, are contributing to an increasing flow of electricity that must be supported by the local distribution grid. Factors that make it complex to predict the distribution of energy in the grid, with the risk of congestion, outages and inefficiencies in distribution.
Approach
It is in this context that the Flexibility Market is set, i.e., a market in which consumers, producers, and prosumers (users who play the role of both consumer and producer of energy) can reduce or increase their energy consumption in response to the needs of the electricity market. In this way they receive remuneration in return: therefore, the Local Flexibility Market helps maintain the balance of the grid, the quality of service provided by distributors, and ultimately reduce the investment costs incurred in upgrading the grid.
Solution
The multi-platform solution will enable all local players - distribution system operators (DSOs), balance service providers (BSPs) i.e., aggregators, consumers and prosumers - to operate in a coordinated and efficient manner, adjusting their consumption or production by adjusting the amount of electricity transported into the grid. In this way, distribution is balanced and recurring peaks in demand or production of renewable energy can be dealt with efficiently. At the heart of the RomeFlex multi-platform is the Market Interface Platform (MIP), developed by Engineering, which connects energy distributors and BSPs with the GME and allows both consumers and prosumers to participate in the Flexibility Marketplace actively.
