FinOps Advisory Service for managing Azure Consumptions
To meet the customer's needs, we followed the FinOps Cycle, a methodological approach that aims to improve the financial management of IT resources, focusing on three main phases:
- Inform: in this phase, detailed data is collected on the consumption of IT resources
- Optimise: at this stage, an in-depth analysis is carried out to identify inefficiencies and savings opportunities
- Operate: having identified opportunities for optimisation, the allocation or reallocation of resources is carried out.
After identifying the current state of FinOps practices, a centralized operating model was defined, headed by the CIO, which performed due diligence on the workload to define its taxonomy with respect to the business and produced a unified report of all Azure subscriptions with possible areas for improvement. In the recurring optimization phase, inspired by the FinOps virtuous cycle (Inform, Optimise, Operate):
- regular reports are produced to determine cost trends, relation to budget and allocation to business units or application solutions
- optimization initiatives are identified and prioritized
- assess the impacts of changes and proceed with implementation and verification
- a maintenance strategy is established to sustain progress
