Aeroporti di Roma: Business Continuity solutions for Always-On Data Centers

ABSTRACT
A high-availability Business Continuity solution with Disaster Recovery implemented across two geographically interconnected Data Centers to guarantee data availability and fault resilience.

Where: italy
Challenge
Our client, one of Europe’s major airports with an annual traffic of tens of millions of passengers, needed to implement a Business Continuity infrastructure distributed across two Data Centers interconnected via a geographic WAN. The main goal was to ensure data continuity and availability even in the event of a failure at one of the two sites.
Approach
We adopted a structured and incremental methodology, divided into several phases designed to ensure precise planning, efficient implementation, thorough testing, and continuous solution management.

Solution
Digital Ecosystem
The implemented solution leverages Hitachi's storage technology with synchronous replication using the Global-Active Device (GAD). This configuration creates a virtual volume distributed across multiple physical storage systems, even those located at significant distances. GAD ensures operational continuity by providing constantly accessible data, high reliability, and uninterrupted operations, maintaining full functionality even in the event of a failure in one of the systems involved.
