AMICO: Telemedicine supports patients

ABSTRACT
The new frontier of telemedicine: robots and sensors for remote monitoring of patient behavior and well-being.

Where: italy
Challenge
Thanks to new technologies and an increasing use of telemedicine, patient support activities are undergoing substantial changes.
Approach
Given our extensive experience in the healthcare and hospital sectors, we are leading this digital transformation by collaborating on the development of AMICO, a project aimed at creating an "Instrumented Environment" infrastructure, designed to monitor the behaviors and psycho-physical state of patients.

The solution consists of sensors installed in the home environment and devices worn directly by the patients, a telemedicine service platform, and the robot "Pepper," developed by SoftBank Robotics, which acts as a mediator between the person and the virtual environment.

This infrastructure integrates data and facial expression analysis, allowing the monitoring of patients' well-being to ensure they feel protected throughout the therapy while staying at home. The project is an innovation at the national level and is particularly aimed at elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases who are undergoing post-hospital discharge care.

The project is funded by PON Research and Innovation 2014-2020 and FSC funds (www.ponricerca.gov.it).
