AgriBIT: artificial intelligence applied to precision farming

ABSTRACT
Lowering costs and environmental impacts by improving production yields: our research project to increase the accuracy and continuity of Precision Agriculture services.

Where: greece
Challenge
The world needs to increase the efficiency of food production as the the global population expansion poses the need for more food. In fact, world food demand is expected to increase by 70% by 2050. However, at the same time, there is a need to ensure the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources while taking actions to mitigate climate change.
Approach
Agriculture is a key sector of Europe's economy and society with 175 million hectares of used agricultural area and 22 million people involved in agriculture production. European products are recognised for their high-quality, a recognition that is further sustained by the European agricultural product Quality Policy.
Solution

AgriBIT exploits heterogeneous data deriving from various sources to support professional applications of Precision Agriculture (PA). It builds upon a combination of technologies, such as Earth Observation (EO) data, Unmanned Vehicles (UVs), communication schemes, autonomous navigation methods, linked together in a unified platform using GNSS features. AgriBIT delivers operational services (i.e. three GNSS enabling services, 8 PA GNSS enabled services), one high precision and affordable GNSS receiver, collaboration services like Big Data Analytics API and Precision Agriculture API and a fully open approach.

This project has received funding from the European Union Agency for the Space Programme under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101004259.
