A single point of access to plant and measurement information for each PDR

With Snam's SUMMER program we enable a new way of managing meter-reading activities in the gas transportation sector.

Challenge
Snam is one of the world's leading energy infrastructure companies and guarantees security of supply, enabling the energy transition. At the end of 2018, it launched a transformation programme, called SUMMER, applied to the metering sector, aimed to improve the effectiveness of processes (management of volume/quality data, breakdowns, plant information, reporting) distributed across the organisational units.
Approach
The aim of the programme was to increase the monitoring of acquired data and its analysis, and to create a single access for data on Redelivery Points (PDR). These business objectives were accompanied by further requirements from the IT department, which intended to reduce the application fragmentation and technological obsolescence of the information systems, creating a single, scalable and flexible system, with technologies in line with the "best of breed" on the market and easily placed in a Cloud evolution scenario.
Solution
To implement such an ambitious programme, Snam chose us due to our knowledge of the measuring processes in the gas transportation sector. A phase of analysis and design of the application solution was started and an implementation roadmap was defined that will lead to a series of future releases, with the Summer Meter reading project identified as the first objective. The programme will lead to a progressive re-engineering of processes and improved integration between existing systems, with about 150 integration flows planned. We adopted the Agile methodology (SCRUM), designed the UI enhancing the UX with an interface that can be fully customised by users and used on different devices, in line with market standards. Business Intelligence was used with algorithms applied to various areas. The architecture defined foresees a microservices approach, with Java/Angular front-end technologies and Openshift as back-end architecture.
