Case Study

The Meter-to-Cash of Gelsia evolves with the Cloud

We realized a new Meter-to-Cash system that enables the rapid adaptation of electricity and gas sales services to business needs by extending Neta platform on Cloud Oracle.

Where: Italy
Challenge
Gelsia, part of the A2A group, is involved in the sale of natural gas and electricity, the construction of cogeneration plants and district heating networks across Italy, as well as the management of building heating systems and photovoltaic plants. Gelsia turned to Eng to renew its IT solution for managing gas and electricity sales services, enhancing security and regulatory compliance while reducing management costs.
Approach
For the technological upgrading of Meter-to-Cash services, Engineering proposed Neta, the market-leading solution in the Customer Information System sector for managing Meter2Cash and key business processes for all types of sales and distribution operators in the gas and electricity markets. The project included updating the existing system and subsequently migrating to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), involving a multidisciplinary team with diverse technological expertise and knowledge of the business processes necessary to implement the new Cloud solution.
Solution

The project integrated specific processes to standard practices and was implemented in 4 phases.

  • Assessment: we analysed the dependencies of the original Meter to Cash solution and the new performance, security and compliance requirements;
  • Data Migration & Integration: we ensured the accuracy and cleanliness of data related to measurement, billing, collections, and overdue payment reminders, with careful management of cut-over activities;
  • Testing & Validation: we tested system functionalities to ensure compliance with requirements;
  • Deploy & Optimization: the release into production took place with minimal operational impact.

The extension of the Neta modular solution to the Oracle Public Cloud provided by an Italian Region (single localized geographical area where Oracle has deployed OCI), ensured Gelsia's protection of its customers' data and compliance with national GDPR policies and regulations.
