  • The alliance, open to operators who wish to join, aims to develop collaborations not only with research institutions, start-ups, specialized SMEs, and technology partners but also with companies operating in sectors outside of IT.
  • The new legal entity was promoted during a meeting with Undersecretary Alessio Butti at the Department for Digital Transformation.

Italian technology leaders Engineering and Lutech are creating the “Digital Alliance for Italy”, an open partnership aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation through the use of PNRR resources.

While maintaining their autonomy and independence, the two Italian companies, which together employ over 20,000 technology specialists worldwide, will pool their extensive market knowledge and ensure the application of the best technical, quality, and economic management principles.

On May 21, the Digital Alliance for Italy was formally launched at the Department for Digital Transformation during a meeting between Maximo Ibarra, CEO of Engineering Group, Giuseppe Di Franco, CEO of Lutech Group, Alessio Butti, Undersecretary for Technological Innovation, and Serafino Sorrenti, Chief Innovation Officer at the Prime Minister's Office and Advisor to the Undersecretary. The meeting served as an initial operational step and a forum for exchanging ideas with the Undersecretary regarding the proposals and projects of the new entity formed by the two companies.

As the two CEOs outlined to the Undersecretary, Engineering and Lutech are committed to jointly supporting the digital transformation of the country through projects aimed at modernizing the systems and production processes of public administration and key national private entities. The initiative will also involve developing collaborations with research institutions and innovative start-ups registered in the national registry, specialized SMEs, and technology partners, with the mission of orchestrating project contracts and ensuring their success.

Maximo Ibarra, CEO of Engineering Group, stated: "We are in a historic phase where it is increasingly essential to create partnerships between various productive entities aimed at supporting the country’s economic and sustainable development through the vast potential of digital technology. In Italy, we have the skills and resources to play a significant role in the digital market and support the country's economic growth. The Alliance we are promoting with Lutech, designed to be open to other operators, aims to act as an enabler among Italian companies to accelerate the digital transformation of Italy. For this reason, I hope it can serve as an example for all industrial realities ready to pool skills and knowledge to design and implement innovative projects that provide real benefits to people."

Giuseppe Di Franco, CEO of Lutech Group, commented: "The Digital Alliance for Italy will contribute thousands of IT professionals with the most advanced skills and experience to the PNRR digital programs, ensuring their timely implementation. The collaboration between the Italian companies Engineering and Lutech, open to third parties, will aid in the digital transformation of society, aiming to create tangible effects on the development of the economy and citizen services."

The Alliance’s activities will focus on broad thematic areas that represent the strengths and expertise of Engineering and Lutech while also addressing critical priorities for Italy:

  • Water: A serious national emergency for every productive sector, civil society, and health, induced by climate change;
  • Energy: A critical production factor for a manufacturing and importing system like ours, guiding it through the transition to decarbonization;
  • Infrastructure: For digital components related to investments in mobility, transport, and logistics networks;
  • Productivity and Artificial Intelligence: Concerned not only with economic development but also with the significant demographic issue affecting all productive sectors;
  • Security: To protect against the increased frequency and severity of cyberattacks on digital systems in recent years.

From a legal perspective, the Alliance will operate under the framework of a network contract, guided by a collegial control and coordination body appointed by the two promoting entities, responsible for managing, on behalf of the participants, the execution of any contracts signed with contracting entities.

The Alliance is set up as an initiative open to including companies outside the IT sector that are undergoing digital transformation and can contribute to achieving the initiative's programmatic goals.
