Engineering brings digital training to Sicily
An important project that, through an innovative e-learning platform, will provide all citizens of the 12 municipalities in the province of Agrigento with the opportunity to acquire new skills.
Engineering's bond with the region is strengthened, where over 400 professionals are engaged in the digitalization of the territory.
Engineering, a leader in digital process transformation for businesses and public administrations, launches an important digital training project for the Sicani Internal Area, aligned with the latest guidelines of the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp), which outlines the necessary know-how for citizens to enjoy a good quality of life, participate in democratic society, and be competitive in the job market.
As of today, February 8, 2024, nearly 50,000 residents in the 12 municipalities of the province of Agrigento (Alessandria della Rocca, Bivona, Burgio, Calamonaci, Cattolica Eraclea, Cianciana, Lucca Sicula, Montallegro, Ribera, San Biagio Platani, Santo Stefano di Quisquina, and Villafranca Sicula) will have access to the e-learning platform with content created and provided by Engineering to embark on a path focused on acquiring digital skills.
“Engineering has always been committed to spreading digital culture in the country through initiatives that make people aware of the great opportunities offered by new technologies. We are truly proud of the collaboration established with the mayors of the Sicani Internal Area, who have made this democratic project possible, recognizing the value it can bring to their citizens and thus to their communities, businesses, and economy, contributing to enhancing technological knowledge in the region,” emphasized Mauro Frassetto, Digital Experience Executive Director at Engineering.
“Training is fundamentally a tool for facing the future. With this project carried out in collaboration with Engineering, we intend to provide our community with an easy and accessible tool to fully understand the great potential of technology. Knowing digital skills today is no longer negligible. It allows people, in their private lives, to make informed decisions based on correct and truthful information, and helps professionals adapt to changes, increase opportunities for finding new job prospects, and improve career opportunities.” said Matteo Ruvolo, Mayor of Ribera, the reference municipality for the project.
The importance of this initiative is also highlighted by recent Eurostat data, which shows that Sicilian citizens are not well-acquainted with the many opportunities offered by the web, ranking second to last, with 34%, in the digital competence ranking among Italian regions. Just over three out of ten people have basic digital skills.
This context underscores Engineering’s project, which thus strengthens its bond with Sicily, where it supports dozens of municipalities in their digitalization efforts with over 400 professionals working in the region.
Building on its twenty-year experience in training its employees through its IT & Management Academy, Engineering brings to the residents of the Sicani Internal Area a course open to everyone: young people and students will learn to navigate toward a future where "digital" knowledge will be a "must-have". Professionals, as well as those seeking employment, can update their know-how. Entrepreneurs and public administration staff can increase productivity, while retirees can continue to learn.
The course, structured into 5 multimedia modules, addresses the needs of users with basic or intermediate knowledge. It will cover simple topics such as the use of search engines and social media, as well as more complex issues like digital citizenship rights, using artificial intelligence for writing texts, legal and ethical practices related to online content management, copyright protection, data security, and even social issues such as cyberbullying. To access subsequent modules, participants will need to achieve intermediate milestones and pass a final assessment quiz, which will provide a participation certificate.
Registration is simple. Just visit the DigiComp AI Terre Sicani website, be a resident of one of the 12 municipalities in the Sicani Internal Area, provide the requested information to create an account, and have access to an internet connection and a multimedia device (PC or tablet).
