Engineering and Salov: supply chain digitalization for olive oil production that ensures quality, flexibility and attention to the environment
Engineering, leader in the digitization of processes for Companies and public administration Authorities, accompanied Salov, bearer of the quality of olive oil in the world together with the Filippo Berio and Sagra brands and present in about 75 countries, in a process of profound digital transformation of its production systems, to adapt them quickly and flexibly to a complex and unpredictable global market as well as the growing consumer demand for quality, the increasingly stringent food sector regulations and the need to implement sustainable production systems.
In particular, Engineering led the complete digitization of Salov's integrated Supply Chain systems, creating a digital ecosystem that, using the opportunities for evolution offered by new technologies (Data Analytics, Digital Twin), has made the entire olive oil production process more efficient and responsive (from the processing of raw materials to supplies and warehouse management), while at the same time ensuring the environmental sustainability of the plants through an energy & environment monitoring system to monitor energy consumption.
"Today the agri-food sector is among the most focused on seizing the opportunities of digital transformation to evolve its production systems with a growing attention to quality and sustainability – said Guido Porro, Executive Vice President Enterprise of Engineering -. As a leading Digital Transformation company that has the ambition to accompany the digital transition of the entire manufacturing world, Engineering is proud to put its technological and process skills at the service of a dynamic and innovative company like Salov, accompanying it in a profound path of digitalization of the Supply Chain aimed at evolving the business while guaranteeing environmental protection and the best product for the consumer".
"In Salov we are aware that technology is a functional element for the well-being of the people who work in the company and helps to build an efficient working model that, by responding effectively to the needs of its customers and consumers, contributes to creating the sustainability of tomorrow" - comments Fabio Maccari, CEO of Salov - The digital transformation, which involved practically all departments and operational flows, will continue consistently in the coming years".
"Thanks to Engineering's expertise, it was possible to plan together a path that was coherent, in which the computerization and integration of all business components proceeded step by step so that each phase made possible and activated the next", comments Luca Greco, CIO of Salov. Integrated Supply Chain, use of technology, human factor, project management and 'IT Driven' change have represented for Salov the enabling and successful factors for the transition to Industry 4.0 and for the sustainable digital transformation as a whole".
To allow Salov to improve its production efficiency, Engineering, starting from a consultancy activity covering the analysis of the plant and business needs, implemented a platform that connects the production lines, management, planning and the maintenance system.
This has made it possible to automate the management of production orders, real-time monitoring, quality controls, master data management and performance tracking, with an improvement in user experience and greater speed in data sharing, whose availability is increasingly central to process optimization.
A better IT governance of systems and processes, achieved through the use of the Digital Twin, has not only helped to cut down on zero value-added actions and the risk of inefficiencies, but has improved the work organization, focusing on the human factor and cementing the relationship between the most senior workers holding company experience and the young newly-hired talents who are more oriented to new technologies.
