STARLIGHT: Artificial Intelligence to fight against high priority threats

Better data analysis and management: a project to equip law enforcement agencies with secure and resilient AI technologies and tools.

Where: international
Challenge
The increasing complexity of security challenges combined with the accumulation of significant amounts of digital data requires more effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
Approach
Advanced AI solutions are able to support LEAs in acquiring, extracting, evaluating, categorizing, analyzing and exporting crime evidence in a timely and effective manner, enabling them to perform their operations with a proactive approach and, thanks to increased situational awareness, identify patterns, correlate events and formulate investigative hypotheses.

STARLIGHT Project's goals are to strengthen LEA's investigative operations, to provide transparent, reliable and human-centric tools and solutions, to offer the necessary level of data protection through privacy and security-by-design approaches, to train investigative units to combat the misuse of AI by crime and terrorism, and finally, to make available an interoperable and standardized framework for the long-term sustainability of solutions. In STARLIGHT project, Engineering is scientific and technical coordinator and responsible for exploitation activities.

The project has received co-funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme - Contract No. 101021797.
