INPS: a new user-centered design system

ABSTRACT
We contributed to the creation of a new design system for INPS by implementing several applications through user centered design methodologies.

Where: italy
Challenge
Every day INPS deals with millions of citizens for the provision of services that require careful management of data and procedures. In this setting, a user centered approach not only simplifies the world of retirement benefits, but also creates reusable tools to simplify the user experience.
Approach
We closely worked with INPS on the consolidation of SIRIO, the agency's design system, aiming to enhance not only the user experience but also, and above all, the trust relationship between citizens and the institution.

Solution
Digital Ecosystem
In the broader process of innovation and digital transformation of INPS, we developed a new User Experience that takes into account the main needs that emerged: usability, accessibility and seamless cross-application experience. This brought to the creation of a new Design System (AgID compliant) to ensure a visual identity and a consistent graphic style between the designed environments. We then developed a "webkit" for INPS as an interactive web styleguide, which became the "toolbox" to adopt for creating (and integrating) the UX elements to be used in the design and development of accessible and usable applications. The webkit was also applied as an Angular framework thanks to the internal development of an «ENGular library». From this experience, INPS perceived the need to create a seamless cross-services UX by extending this approach to other projects.
