Where: italy
Challenge
An important digital training project compliant with the guidelines of the European Framework for Digital Competence (DigComp), which outlines the essential skills for citizens to improve their quality of life, actively participate in democratic society, and be competitive in the job market.
Approach
The client is the Internal Area Sicani, consisting of 12 municipalities in the province of Agrigento (Alessandria della Rocca, Bivona, Burgio, Calamonaci, Cattolica Eraclea, Cianciana, Lucca Sicula, Montallegro, Ribera, San Biagio Platani, Santo Stefano di Quisquina, and Villafranca Sicula), with a population of approximately 50,000 inhabitants. Participants can develop educational goals that go beyond computer literacy: the program enables citizens to participate more actively and consciously in the digital society, thus providing communities with concrete support for resilience in the continuously evolving global scenario.
Solution
The adopted reference for instructional design is DigComp. The instructional and engagement strategy employs storytelling and gamification dynamics to engage and motivate users; it provides examples and case studies; encourages a critical and creative approach in all areas; utilizes micro-learning. The platform used is Moodle, an Open Source LMS. Within it, training modules have been implemented, corresponding to the 5 DigComp areas. Each area is covered in a dedicated module, both at the Basic and Intermediate levels, for a total of 10 modules, plus an Introductory one. For each area, the user must pass a sort of playful test that determines enrollment in the Basic or Intermediate module. Completion unlocks badges and certificates, while the list of completed modules is tracked in a downloadable "Training Record."
