Engineering receives the EcoVadis Gold Medal, one of the most important international sustainability rating platforms

Additionally, three major decarbonization targets have been approved by SBTi (Science-Based Targets initiative).

Rome, September 16 2024

Engineering, a leader in the digitalization processes for businesses and public administration, has achieved the Gold Medal from EcoVadis, one of the most accredited international ESG rating agencies, gaining 15 points compared to the previous year. This recognition places Engineering in the Top 5% of the more than 130,000 companies globally that have completed the EcoVadis assessment process, demonstrating a solid sustainability management system.

In addition to this significant achievement, still within the ESG domain, three decarbonization targets have recently been validated and approved by SBTi (Science-Based Targets initiative) based on qualitative and quantitative criteria.

Maximo Ibarra, CEO of Engineering, comments: "Engineering is pursuing a growth path with the goal of becoming a catalyst for change for itself and its partners, placing sustainability at the heart of corporate strategic policies to safeguard the environment, promote social well-being, and support our business and clients. The Sustainability Strategic Plan, the latest ESG Report, the EcoVadis Gold Medal, the approval of three decarbonization targets by SBTi, and the active involvement of all business areas in sustainability and technological innovation confirm the effectiveness of our journey. These accomplishments motivate us to continue this path with even greater determination, also through the implementation of digital and AI solutions and the partnerships in research we are developing, such as supporting the recent establishment of the Luiss Chair in AI and Climate Change, the first in Europe, which will bring further expertise to Engineering and the country."

By joining the SBTi initiative and committing to its goals, the Engineering Group sets near-term objectives aligned with the Science-Based Targets initiative's Call to Action criteria. Specifically:

  • Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030, compared to the 2022 base year.*
  • Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. also commits to reducing absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from fuel and energy activities, business travel, and employee commuting by 25% within the same period.
  • Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. further commits to ensuring that 62% of its suppliers, in terms of emissions from purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets by 2029.

*The goal includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy raw materials.

The Gold Medal from EcoVadis and the approval of the decarbonization targets by SBTi confirm the central role of ESG policies in the Group’s development strategy.

Earlier this year, Engineering’s Board of Directors approved the 2024-2026 Sustainability Strategic Plan, which for the first time outlines measurable goals and targets for all 21 countries where the Group operates with over 80 offices. In July, the 2023 Sustainability Report was published, subject to a third-party review process (Deloitte) for the third consecutive year.

Key results reported in the document across the three ESG areas include a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions linked to electricity consumption, the Group's certification for gender equality (UNI/PdR 125:2022), and the provision of over 260,000 hours of training through the IT & Management Academy for employee upskilling and reskilling.

The structuring and implementation of the sustainability process, which took over a year of work, involved Engineering’s ESG team and all company functions, ensuring the full integration of sustainability expertise across the entire Group.

About EcoVadis and Science-Based Targets

EcoVadis is a platform that provides reliable and globally recognized corporate sustainability ratings, helping companies reduce risks, promote improvement, and accelerate positive impact on the planet and society. The assessment covers various sustainability aspects, grouped into four themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a joint effort by CDP, the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and WWF, aimed at increasing corporate climate action ambitions by encouraging companies to set targets aligned with the level of decarbonization needed to limit warming to below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
