Integration between applications is at the center of quality business and services

User-oriented competences and methodological approach: this is Engineering's proposal.

In accordance with the definition given by the creator of this concept, W.H. Inmon, a Data Warehouse is a specifically structured collection of data to respond to certain characteristics:

  • subject-oriented
  • integrated
  • non-volatile
  • time-dependent.

While in traditional databases the typical organization is based on the provision of a data structure oriented towards optimizing the necessary operations in the operative management processes (entry of a new order or invoice, registration of the shipment of a product, entry and exit from warehouse...) a Data Warehouse aims to organize data from various sources to support a company's decision-making processes.
Integration is therefore the most important of a Data Warehouse's characteristics, as it allows harmonization of data coming from different applications designed for different purposes.

Competences

Information Engineering: Experts in data modeling, a high managerial level that can combine information system knowledge, sectoral competence in specific business areas, competence in data privacy in companies and of how to manage such data securely in information systems.

ETL Architect: IT professionals specialized in designing complex systems for the definition of the most suitable strategies for correct feeding of a Data Warehouse system and correct alignment/synchronization policies of all the data structures included in a Data Warehouse: Staging, Operational Data Store, Data Mart, Cubi Olap. The value searched for in the solutions used by these specialists is the correct management of Metadata, which is necessary for ensuring the correct level of quality/reliability in the entire system (control of feeding processes, data quality control, control on level of alignment between the various levels of data, definition of KPI aimed at evaluating data quality...)

Data Warehouse Architect: Much more than a DBA, The Data Warehouse Architect combines the competences of physical data modeling to design the most suitable physical structures for ensuring high performance levels both during the data input phase and the extraction and analysis phase. The characteristics that qualify this type of professional are a high level of experience in managing VLDB, specialization in the technologies used for implementing a Data Warehouse, to best exploit the technological characteristics.

Product Specialist: Certified experts who can guide technical choices for the design of the various layers of a Data Warehouse infrastructure, from capacity planning for the choice of the HW infrastructure (Teradata, Netezza, Exadata, MS SQL Server Appliance,...), to the ETL platform (IBM Infosphere Datastage, Informatica Powercenter, MS DTS, Foss solutions, Oracle ODI,...), to the RDBMS platform.

Also: Data Warehouse Developer, Information Analyst. These are the professionals that Engineering can provide for a Data Warehouse project. A team of professionals who combine technological and methodological skills that can provide a complete answer for our clients on matters concerning Data Warehouses and Business Intelligence.

A competence center that can cover the entire life cycle of a Data Warehouse project, from choosing the platform to the full realization and management.
